National Scholarship Month

In October 2013, Gamma Phi Omega launched the inaugural National Scholarship Month to solidify our commitment to the sorority’s primal goal of academic excellence. Commonly scholarship is thought of as a monetary award, however, scholarship firstly refers to learning of a high level.

As collegiate and professional young women, the constant quest for knowledge and growth is at the forefront. Therefore, every year a theme is selected in efforts to expand our members’ horizons and emerge them in different cultures and/or issues across the globe. Sisters can participate in national events or host events on their campus that reflect the theme.

This year’s theme is “It’s On Us.” Started two years ago by the White House, It’s On Us takes a forceful stance against campus rape culture. As a sorority, we deem it important to create an environment that supports survivors and challenges environments, such as universities, that put women at greater risk of being sexually assaulted.

Through Swan’s Digest, our National Scholarship Month webzine, we aim to fortify our pledge through awareness, advocacy and ultimately action.
